Shrimp and Vegetable Dumplings

 











Here’s a delicious recipe for Shrimp and Vegetable Dumplings, perfect for steaming, pan-frying, or boiling.

Ingredients:

For the filling:

  • 300g raw shrimp, peeled and deveined (finely chopped)
  • 1 cup cabbage, finely shredded
  • ½ cup carrots, grated
  • 2 green onions, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch (to help bind the filling)
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper

For the dumpling wrappers:

  • 30 round dumpling wrappers (store-bought or homemade)

For dipping sauce:

  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • ½ teaspoon chili flakes (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon chopped green onions

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the filling:

    • In a bowl, combine the chopped shrimp, cabbage, carrots, green onions, garlic, and ginger.
    • Add soy sauce, sesame oil, cornstarch, salt, and black pepper.
    • Mix well until fully combined. Cover and refrigerate for 20 minutes to let the flavors meld.
  2. Assemble the dumplings:

    • Place a dumpling wrapper in your palm. Add about 1 teaspoon of filling in the center.
    • Moisten the edges with water and fold the wrapper in half, pleating one side to seal.
    • Press firmly to ensure the dumpling is sealed. Repeat with remaining wrappers.
  3. Cooking methods:

    To steam:

    • Line a steamer basket with parchment paper or cabbage leaves to prevent sticking.
    • Steam over boiling water for 8-10 minutes, until the wrappers turn translucent.

    To pan-fry (potstickers):

    • Heat a tablespoon of oil in a non-stick pan over medium heat.
    • Arrange dumplings in the pan and cook until the bottoms are golden brown (about 2 minutes).
    • Add ¼ cup of water, cover, and steam for 5-7 minutes until cooked through.

    To boil:

    • Bring a pot of water to a gentle boil. Add the dumplings and cook for 3-4 minutes until they float to the top.
  4. Prepare the dipping sauce:

    • In a small bowl, mix soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, chili flakes, and sugar.
    • Garnish with chopped green onions.
  5. Serve:

    • Serve the dumplings hot with the dipping sauce on the side.
