Ingredients
Meats and Cheese:
4 ounces deli ham
4 ounces salami
4 ounces pepperoni
4 ounces provolone cheese
Vegetables:
2 cups shredded iceberg lettuce
1 large tomato, diced
¼ red onion, finely chopped
¼ cup banana pepper rings
Dressing:
¼ cup mayonnaise
2 tablespoons red wine vinegar
3 tablespoons Italian dressing
1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
Salt and black pepper to taste
Bread:
4 sub or hoagie rolls
Instructions
1. Prepare the Ingredients:
On a large cutting board, layer the ham, salami, pepperoni, provolone cheese, lettuce, tomato, red onion, and banana peppers.
Using a sharp knife, finely chop all the layered ingredients until they are well combined and in small, uniform pieces.
2. Make the Dressing:
In a bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, red wine vinegar, Italian dressing, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper until smooth.
3. Combine Mixture and Dressing:
Transfer the chopped sandwich mixture into a large bowl.
Pour the dressing over the mixture and toss thoroughly to ensure even coating.
4. Assemble the Sandwiches:
Slice the sub rolls lengthwise, without cutting all the way through, to create a hinge.
Spoon the chopped mixture into each roll, pressing it down gently to pack the filling.
5. Serve:
Serve immediately, or wrap the sandwiches tightly in parchment paper for later consumption.
This method ensures that every mouthful is packed with a balanced mix of meats, cheese, and veggies, all enveloped in a tangy dressing. It's a perfect option for picnics, lunches, or a quick dinner. For a lighter version, consider serving the chopped mixture over a bed of greens as a salad, omitting the bread.
Enjoy your homemade Chopped Italian Sandwich!
