This Southern-style dish is packed with smoky, savory flavors and makes a perfect side or main dish!
Ingredients:
- 6 slices bacon, chopped
- 1 small onion, diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 medium head of cabbage, chopped
- 1 tsp salt (or to taste)
- ½ tsp black pepper
- ½ tsp smoked paprika (optional)
- ¼ tsp red pepper flakes (optional, for spice)
- 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar (optional, for tang)
Instructions:
- Cook Bacon: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook chopped bacon until crispy. Remove with a slotted spoon and set aside, leaving the bacon grease in the pan.
- Sauté Onion & Garlic: In the same pan, add diced onion and cook until soft (about 3 minutes). Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another 30 seconds.
- Add Cabbage: Toss in the chopped cabbage, stirring to coat it in the bacon grease. Cook for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until softened and slightly browned.
- Season & Finish: Add salt, pepper, paprika, and red pepper flakes (if using). Stir in apple cider vinegar for extra flavor.
- Add Bacon & Serve: Stir the crispy bacon back in, mix well, and serve hot!
