Savory Crescent Roll Bake


Ingredients:


2 cans (8 oz each) refrigerated crescent roll dough


1 lb ground sausage (or ground beef/turkey)


1 small onion, finely chopped


1 bell pepper, diced (optional)


2 cloves garlic, minced


1 cup shredded cheddar cheese


½ cup shredded mozzarella cheese


1 tsp Italian seasoning


½ tsp salt


½ tsp black pepper


¼ tsp red pepper flakes (optional)


2 tbsp cream cheese (for extra creaminess)


1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)



Instructions:


1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.



2. In a skillet, cook the sausage (or ground meat) over medium heat until browned. Drain excess fat.



3. Add the onion, bell pepper, and garlic, cooking until softened. Season with Italian seasoning, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes. Stir in cream cheese until melted and combined. Remove from heat.



4. Unroll one can of crescent roll dough and press it into the bottom of the prepared baking dish, pinching seams together.



5. Spread the meat mixture evenly over the dough, then sprinkle with cheddar and mozzarella cheese.



6. Unroll the second can of crescent dough and lay it over the filling, pinching seams to seal.



7. Brush the top with the beaten egg for a golden crust.



8. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through.



9. Let it rest for 5 minutes before slicing. Serve warm!
