Simple Turkish Flatbread (Bazlama) Recipe
This is an easy, yeast-leavened flatbread cooked in a pan.
Ingredients:
3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour (or bread flour)
1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) instant yeast
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon sugar (or sugar substitute like allulose)
1 cup warm water
1/2 cup plain yogurt (or dairy-free alternative)
2 tablespoons olive oil
Instructions:
1. Mix the dough: In a bowl, combine flour, yeast, salt, and sugar. Add warm water, yogurt, and olive oil. Knead until smooth (about 8 minutes by hand or 5 minutes in a stand mixer).
2. Let it rise: Cover and let the dough rise for 1–1.5 hours, until doubled in size.
3. Divide & shape: Punch down the dough and divide it into 6-8 pieces. Roll each into a circle about 1/4-inch thick.
4. Cook in a pan: Heat a dry pan over medium heat. Cook each flatbread for 2-3 minutes per side, until golden and puffed.
5. Serve warm with butter, olive oil, or dips like hummus or tzatziki.
